Nelson
The town of Nelson is located on the Eastern shores of Tasman Bay, top of the South Island, New Zealand. It is the oldest city in the south island and the second oldest city in New Zealand.
Nelson has a population of about 55,000 people, a thriving arts and crafts scene and is a major service centre for local, and also ocean fishing vessels, boating in general, it is also a service centre for local farming communities. This makes Nelson an ideal location for visiting yachts to provision or get repairs sorted. You will be able to obtain most items required to continue sailing and all boat repairs, there are also ample freight companies if you needs spare parts shiped in.
You will find a cold beer, friendly people and some great eating out. Nelson is a safe location to leave the yacht if you venture inland.
Port Nelson
On a clear day finding the Nelson Custom dock and the Nelson marina is really straight forward, however when its blowing 35 knots in the port with very poor visibility and your dodging floating trees in the port area that have come down the river, it feels a great deal more challenging.
