New Zealand is also the land of extreme beauty and some truely terrible ocean weather. It's long been regarded as a cyclone refuge for cruising sailors crossing the Pacific Ocean. Those who want to sail in the months of November to April. New Zealand offers an amazing country to explore, some great sailing providing your prepared and excellent yacht services. I have always viewed New Zealand as an amazingly beautiful country and a great place for adventure travel or to just explore. You will find friendly people, great food and a safe place to leave your yacht if you choose to explore inland.

Nelson - South Island 

Nelson is the oldest city in the South Island. It is a large city bordering the Cook Straight. Many yachts clear customs in Nelson when arriving from the Southern states of Australia. Nelson has excellent boating services to conduct repairs. It is a good place to stage from when exploring the Marlborough Sound region or before heading south to Fjords on the West coast of the South Island.

Nelson area - D'Urville island 

D'Urville Island: is the largest island in the Marlborough Sounds, located on the Northern coast of the South Island and a Half day sail North of Nelson. It was named after the French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville. With an area of approximately 150 square kilometres (58 sq mi), it is the eighth-largest island of New Zealand, hidden gem.

Picton - South Island

Picton is a small city or large town, it also serves as the the main ferry terminal joining the North and South Islands. There is a small marina in the CBD and a larger one approx 4km to the North of the CBD. It is a good place to stop for a few days to rest and provision, or conduct crew changes.

Whangarei - North Island

Whangarei is a medium sized city 130km North of Auckland. The Whangarei boasts a marine industrial complex with the capability to service yachts right up to small ships. There is good competition in all services so prices competitive. Whangarei also serves as an excellent place to provision before departing North to the Pacific. Custom clearance is facilitated at Marsden Cove marina near the mouth of the river.

OPUA - North Island

Opua in the Bay of islands is often a yacht point of departure or arrival. Opua is the most Northern yacht point of entry into New Zealand. It consists of a medium sized marina, a general store, yacht club and a chippie. The nearest small town is Paihia 5km North of Opua, Paihia has basic services and is suitable for provisioning. You will also find a decent meal and a beer.
